“Jazz at the Royal” – Wednesday 12th December


Another ‘full house’ for the fabulous “Bryn Timms Quartet” featuring Bryn Timms (Saxaphone & Clarinet), David Parfitt (Guitar & Vocals), Richard Kehoe (Bass) & John Higgs (Drums).

A generous buffet was laid on by Julie Ball, Stuart Crisp, Anne Marie Mitchison & Christine Lewis.

A very enjoyable evening.

Knots & Slicing – Tuesday 13th November


On Tuesday 13th November over 20 Members and guests were treated to a most interesting demonstration of splicing with Richard ‘Spike’ Whitaker. We saw several different and increasingly challenging splices and all present had ample opportunity to try their hand at performing some of the splices and to ask questions as the demonstration took place. The demonstration was followed by generous portions of lasagne and crusty bread supplied by Nick and Lisa Mahy from the Cobo Tea Room.

RNLI/CIAS Cocktail Party – Wednesday 21st November


Another highly succesful ‘thank you’ to the crews & management of the RNLI & CIAS with the added highlight that we were honoured by the presence of His Excellency Lieutenant-Governor Air Marshal Peter Walker CB CBE & Mrs. Walker.  The welcoming speech was given by Commodore David Mitchison. Harbour Master Captain Peter Gill on behalf of the RNLI, Colin Ferbrache Chief Officer of CIAS, and finally Lieutenant-Governor Air Marshal Peter Walker responded on behalf of the guests.

150th Anniversary Dinner – Saturday 20th October



Instead of holding our usual laying up supper, more than 60 members attended a dinner, supported by Babbé & Nashcopy, at the Cobo Bay Hotel to celebrate the 150th Anniversary of the Club.  At the same time RCIYC members in Jersey were also celebrating the occasion.  As well as long serving members of the Guernsey Club (formed in 1954) Tattie Thompson & Paddy Randall there were 5 Past Commodores present at the dinner.

Greetings were also conveyed to the Jersey Club by Mike Tai and Julie Payne, representing Guernsey.

The dinner was a great success and thanks are due to the Cobo Bay Hotel and to guitarist John Byrne who entertained us.  Special thanks are due to Julie & Phil Ball and Ann Marie Mitchison for their invaluable assistance in organising such a memorable evening.  This event marked the end of our 150th Anniversary celebrations which have included a sail-past the clubhouse in Jersey’s St Aubin’s bay and a special issue of stamps in Guernsey.



Winter Talk – Sark Pilotage – Tuesday, 16th October


On Tuesday 16th October over 30 Members and guests were treated to an informative and entertaining talk by John Frankland.  John’s topic was Pilotage on the West and South coasts of Sark.

We were guided, helped by many photographs and charts, through the Parfonde and Gouliot Passages into Havre Gosselin.  Rounding Pierre Norman we were then led through many rocks to Port Gorey and then to Rouge Terrier.  Here John left us – which must mean that we will invite him back in the near future to help us to navigate our way back to Guernsey.

The presentation was followed by ample quantities of bean jar and crusty bread. A thoroughly enjoyable evening.



RCIYC 150th Anniversary ‘Sail Past’ – Thursday 5th July



130 boats took to the water in St Aubin’s Bay to celebrate the 150th Anniversary of RCIYC and hundreds watched from the shore.

Two Guernsey boats took part in the ‘Sail Past’ namely Magic Legend (Mike Tai & Julie Payne) and Meltemi of Lisia (Phil & Julie Ball).

Meanwhile Commodore David Mitchison and Anne Marie were generously entertained by RCIYC Jersey Commodore Sandra Carroll and her Committee, in the company of the Lieutenant-Governor General Sir John McColl, on the balcony of the Club overlooking the Bay.

The organisation of the evening both on and off the water was outstanding and even the weather was perfect.


Fitting Out Supper – Saturday 24th March


The Fitting Out supper was a great success with an excellent three course meal served by local Cordon Bleu cook, Tina Guille.  










Quiz and Supper – Thursday 15th March 


An entertaining Quiz night was held with Jeremy Smithies, a newly appointed committee member, kindly setting the questions and acting as Quiz Master. Jeremy was ably assisted by Jane Smithies who worked out the results.

Afterwards there was a very enjoyable buffet supper which had been prepared by Julie Ball, Rear Commodore, and Anne Marie Mitchison.
