The “Cruise to Le Legue” was memorable in that quite a few boats entered, but at the briefing on the Thursday before it was decided to cancel the cruise because the weather for the return journey on the Sunday was not going to be fun for the participants. However our intrepid Rear Commodore, Stuart Crisp, on the Saturday morning decided to take his bicycle on the ferry to St Malo and cycle from St Malo to Le Legue. He arrived to a wonderful reception from the locals who lined the streets of Le Legue to greet him. Four RCIYC Guernsey members were already there. They were entertained royally and
had a wonderful time. Incidentally, Stuart also cycled back to St Malo to catch the return ferry.
We had the pleasure of entertaining our French friends from Carteret and Morlaix on 13th May. It is always fun when they come to our Club even if it is sometimes a bit of a squeeze! We also had our annual visit from the Torbay Yacht Club on 5th June. It is always a pleasure to see them. This happened to coincide with “The Oak Trust Impi Shield Race” which also took place on 5th June. It was once again a great success, although only one boat from each class finished the race due to the lack of wind. Altair (John Frankland) won the cruising class and Alice (Simon Henning) got the racing trophy. The reception took place in a marquee erected on the Careening Hard Arm. The whole event was very well organised by Ray Redelinghuys. I should like to offer our special thanks to Oak Trust for its sponsorship.
We then had the “Dinard Race” on 11th June; eight boats competed, seven finished and the winner was Alvin II. “Round Herm” took place on 19th June, ten boats took part and White Rabbit took first prize.
We also had a cruise to St Aubyns on 19th and 20th June. Ten boats entered and everyone had a lovely dinner at the RCIYC Jersey.
On 27th June we unfortunately lost the “Governor’s Cup” to Jersey, but I feel sure we will regain it next year. White Rabbit won the “Herm via the Tobars Race” on 3rd July.
From 11th to 16th July the “Tour des Port” took place when the skippers and crews of over 100 boats were invited to a Vin d’Honneur at Castle Cornet.
On Saturday 17th July the “Cherbourg Race” will start at 0830.
