Dear Member

We have now come to the end of the racing and cruising season! The Club  moves into the Winter Season with greater emphasis on social events. (Please note the opening and closing times as indicated below).

Since my last newsletter we have had a series of events starting with the “Round the Island Trip”. My thanks to Jane Smithies for sending me a detailed account of what happened, which can be viewed on the club notice board. She painted an amusing picture and great fun was had by all.

On 17th July “Ozannes Cherbourg Race” took place. Three boats competed and “Busker” was the winner.

The “Swoffers Evening Race” took place on 27th July. 13 boats competed (7 racers, 6 cruisers). Blue Jade won the racer’s category and Tomahawk the cruiser’s.

The “Alderney Race”, which is a combined event with the GYC, started at 8.30 am on 31st July. Moojo  took the honours.

I must congratulate the three participants of the “Boatworks + Evening Race” on the 10th August for turning up in such foul weather. Two racers and one cruiser participated; White Rabbit winning the racer’s and Busker the cruiser’s category.

The “Round Guernsey Race” on 14th August, which is newly sponsored by “Ballistic Blue”, had 9 boats competing with Dutch Courage being the winner.

Seven boats entered the “Hanois Race” on 21st August and it was won by Dreamtime.

We then had the“Randalls Evening Race” on 26th August. Four racers and two cruisers took part. Due to the lack of wind all racers retired and Busker was the winner for the cruisers.

On the August bank holiday weekend the “Clegg Gifford Cruise to Dielette” took place. It was a great success with 10 boats leaving at various times. Pre-dinner drinks and dinner at Le Phare Hotel in Dielette were greatly enjoyed by all. John Frankland set the quiz that was won by Calypso.

“Mora’s Restaurant” sponsored the “Mora Evening Race” on 9th September. Six racers and seven cruisers took part. Dreamtime was first for the racers and Haven Gem for the cruisers.

On 11th September “Ballistic Blue” sponsored “Round Sark and Herm Race” There were five competitors and White Rabbit took first place honours.

There was a disappointing turnout for “The Commodores’ Pot” on 18th September; only two boats took part. Moojo was first to return to the Clubhouse and down a pint.

After it had been cancelled for the last two years, the “Cruise to Beaucette” was to take place on Saturday 25th September. However, once again, due to adverse weather conditions, it was decided not to proceed. Nevertheless, the crews of six boats met up at the Club for a pre-lunch drink and then came back to the Club for the evening “barbeque”. The whole event was most enjoyable – and very well organised by our Rear Commodore, Stuart Crisp, who also cooked us all a delicious meal.
